Disclaimer:
1. Coming from a multimedia design background, I have a strong passion and enjoyment in drawing, video production, blogging and web design etc.
Therefore this entire entry is done out of my passion and love for both food and design. I was not paid by Cupcake Central or received any benefits of any kind, to write this post.2. Cupcake Central held a twitter competition where one lucky winner can attend a cupcake central master class by tweeting to Cupcake Central why they want to learn to bake cupcakes? (My response: @cupcake_central I want to attend the master class because I’m a foodie n I don’t know how to bake!)
Initially there was a winner chosen by Sheryl, however the people were unable to attend. Sheryl had then contacted me via twitter asking whether I would like to attend. Of course my answer was yes! She had chosen me based on my passion for food and for being courteous to her all the time on twitter.Please do not judge this entry as a PR entry, because it isn’t. All my entries on Peach-Water.com are written in honesty and my true belief of what I think of the food.
As an appreciation to the effort and great service from Sheryl and her team members, I felt compelled to write this entry to promote her business and food to my visitors.
I have tried many cupcakes from many stores around Melbourne and by far Cupcake Central’s cupcakes and service have always been consistent.
Part 1 – Attending Cupcake Central’s MasterClass
So I was super excited when Sheryl contacted me asking whether I would like to attend to her Cupcake Central MasterClass. I couldn’t really contain my excitement, because I’ve always wanted to learn to bake.
Coming from a family where we use the stovetop on a very frequent basis than the oven, my dearest mother felt that the oven could be used as a storage compartment (don’t ask me why -_-)
To my very horror, I almost burned the whole house down, only because there was a polystyrene tray in the oven! My kitchen ended up being covered in a lot of soot. Hence, my first time baking experience was a nightmare!
The second time, I was in the kitchen trying to bake cupcakes; following the instructions from a book given to me for my birthday by my best friend… well lets just say the cupcake ended up very very strange where the top of the cupcake was super crunchy and the bottom of the cupcakes were still very much undercooked.
Just for fun, I produced this short youtube video on the day using my iphone 4S. It’s a short video introduction on the cupcakes at Cupcake Central, and what I learned at the Master Class.
So what exactly did I learn in the MasterClass?
- How to bake quality cupcakes and how to make them look AWESOME;
- Techniques on how to ensure that each cupcake are the same size;
- How to line your cupcake tins super quickly;
- How to decorate cupcakes using fondant;
- How to pipe icing onto cupcakes;
- Secretly learn from Tin that it’s Cupcake Central’s way of recruiting the best cupcake decorators for their store :P
I definitely had a great time getting to meet Sheryl finally in person, and also getting to learn how to bake cupcakes.
I’m really glad that Sheryl has the vision of teaching others who are wanting to learn how to bake cupcakes, as she believes that cupcakes are one of the easiest things to make and that there shouldn’t be any secrets on making them.
For those who are health conscious, don’t look! Yes, cupcakes requires fat! It makes it soft, moist and improves the colour. And also makes it yummy – probably not good for the waistline!
Cupcake Central uses New Zealand butter – richest taste
Cupcake Central also uses free range eggs for ethical reasons – which I personally agree to!
Once the mixture is mixed thoroughly, it’s time to scoop the batter into the cupcake cases.
We learned how to quickly line the tins. Imagine having to do that slowly one by one.
Nearly done! Just need to swap the tin around to make sure it’s cooked evenly.
Now time to make my favourite cupcakes – The super moist red velvet cupcakes!
The reason why the mixture is red is because in Southern America they make cupcakes for special occasions.
The trick in scooping the right amount of cupcakes each time is to use ice-cream scoops!
Time to decorate! Here are the cookie cutters that Cupcake Central uses, and the different decorations that can be used on the cupcakes!
Sheryl preparing the fondant and colouring the fondant for us to make our decorations.
Here are my humble little cupcake decorations. I wasn’t feeling super creative that day as you can see -_-. At the very last minute I saw a sausage dog cookie cutter. Then I felt a little naughty and placed little chocolate pieces underneath it :P Oh, and can you see the special decoration i made for peach water? :)
Once we finished making the cupcakes, Sheryl made coffee for us (they sell coffee in store). Us 5 girls sat there chatting and eating our freshly baked cupcakes (i love the red velvet cupcakes! super moist), and Sheryl brought out the coffee for us < ;3
After our coffee, Sheryl taught us techniques on how to pipe icing onto the cupcakes. I felt a little un-coordinated but I eventually became used to it! Real fun :D
The cupcake below is obviously Sheryl’s work of art! talented right? :)
And… TA DA!!!!!!! here are my finished cupcakes :D
Within one hour all my cupcakes were GONE. I delivered them to my colleagues at work that day (poor things, had to work on Sunday :(), and I also went and delivered one to my friend Marlon ^_^.
Here are some photos on the cupcakes that were decorated by the other girls. Aren’t they creative? :D

My favourite restaurant is the Meat and Wine Company on Southbank. My favourite dish would have to be the feta stuffed mushrooms for entree, the Beef and Prawn skewer with a side dish of vegetables and blue cheese sauce for main, and the mixed dessert platter to share. And an appletini with the meal too is a must – yum…. I am salivating just thinking about it…
Hi Jess,
I have been to Meat & Wine Co too. It’s one of those blog posts I havent written about – still locked in my backlog. Look out for the blog post in the near future.
You should also try the Kangaroo meat dish – gem :)

My favourite restaurant would be Huxtable in Smith Street Collingwood! It is the ultimate taste sensation from their simple starters to their delectable deserts! Their menu comprising of shared dishes means you can sample many unique and wonderful tastes. Having a share plate menu also means it becomes a very open and sociable occasion to catchup with old and new friends. I have always found the staff to be friendly and genuine at this classy and sophisticated restaurant. The staff are also more than happy to help match a great wine with your selected dishes. If you haven’t been to Huxtable before, check it out! You will be back… Coconut prawn salad with pomelo, lychee, rice noodles & cashews anyone?!
Hi Tess,
Thanks for the recommendation. I have heard of Huxtable, and would like to visit it some time!
Ahhh~~ desserts! Always my favourite part of the meal.

My favourite restaurant is New Quay Buffet Restaurant and Bar. It has a great ambience and the service is fantastic. It has amazing fresh food and the desserts are to die for, especially the chocolate fountain and profiteroles! Yum!
Hi Marjorie,
Ahh~ New Quay Buffer – I’ve heard mixed reviews of this place. I used to be a great fan of buffets, but I now realise that I can barely stomach buffets as much as I did back when I was younger! haha But…. Chocolate fountain sounds… oh so tempting!
I’ve received your entry for the competition.
Good luck!

My favourite restaurant so far I would have to say is NOBU in Southbank. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and it is fine dining at its best! The price reflects the quality of the dishes. Love the sashimi tacos and black cod!
Hi Anna,
Ahh~~ Good ol’ NOBU! One of the my very first fine dining places I’ve been to!
The miso black cod is indeed one of NOBU’s signature dishes and a dish that I would go back just to eat.

I love love love this place and truly enjoyed my cupcake class with them as well!
Cool blog. I want to nominate Ume Hana on Elizabeth Street. It’s a Japanese and Korean restaurant/café on Elizabeth Street next to Mino Hair Salon. I’ve only been there at lunch but it’s always busy. The owner or manager appears to be a little strange but he’s just having fun. I’ve seen people walk out because they don’t understand that guys’ sense of humour. So if he says something weird just laugh it off and enjoy the great/wide selection of food.
Hi Wazza!
Thanks for your competition entry! I will need to try out Ume Hana, given that I walk past that place on a regular basis, and plus its Japanese+Korean which is my favourite cuisine.
I shall check out what this strangeness is all about!
Good luck!

I would like to nominate Kokoro Ramen as my favourite restaurant – their tonkotsu shio pork belly ramen is delicious and reminds me of travelling in Japan : )
Hi Natalie,
hello and welcome to my blog :)
Ah yes, I’ve been to Kokoro Ramen too. I love their ramen, and it appears to be authentic given that the chef there was French and Japanese trained! I do have a blog post on it, if you would like to read.
But thank you for entering the competition.
Good luck :)
