Thai-Thani

Thai Thani | Fitzroy

If there was one cuisine I had to eat for the rest of my life, it would most likely be Thai food. I crave Thai food on a regular basis and always on the search for new Thai places. Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Thai Thani located on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, where I was able to sample some of the most authentic Thai dishes that were inspired by the owner’s/head chef’s childhood. Here’s a photo diary of the dishes I tried with my friends at Thai Thani! Thai Espresso Martini and Spring Rolls Spring Rolls Papaya salad Mixed Asian greens, pomelo salad, massaman beef cheek curry and spring rolls Absolutely loved all the dishes we sampled despite being in a food coma earlier on in the day. The chef did not hold back on the spices and flavours and gave us an authentic Thai food experience. If there’s any dishes I would recommend it would be the massaman beef cheek curry as it was absolutely AMAZING. The beef cheek was so tender that it …

Clucked | St Kilda

The golden crispy pieces of fried chicken can make any fried chicken lover weak in the knees, but the the thought of greasiness, followed by hours on the treadmill can turn any person who cares about their fitness run for the hills. However, I may have found the answer to the later, ‘Clucked.’ Recently I was invited by Clucked to try out their healthy fried chicken. As I’m working on my health and fitness, I was a bit reluctant to try it at first, however being the foodie I am, I decided to make a visit. Clucked was first started in 1990s, when the owner’s dad made them boneless fried chicken. Fast forward a decade later, they have started frying healthy free range boneless chickens for us fried chicken fanatics. As it was a hot that day, we decided to quench our thirst with some Bundaberg drinks – Sarsaparilla and Lemon, Lime and Bitters. Once our thirst was quenched, a platter of golden crispy fried chicken two ways, chips, arancini and three healthy salads  (coleslaw, red …

Meatworks | South Melbourne

Meatworks is a newly opened 100-seater casual canteen-styled eatery that has opened up at an old mechanic’s garage in South Melbourne. The owner Lindsay Jones-Evans (Jones the Grocer, The Victorian Room), draws his business skills together with chef Travis Watson to create unique flavours inspired from the east and west to create mouth watering meaty goodness. The menu they offer is quite short but it rotates regularly. Other than the meat platter they offer Vietnamese baguettes and surprise surprise a VERY delicious tofu salad! (I’m not over exaggerating on this tofu salad – you’ve got to try it yourself) All smoked items at Meatworks are cooked in their own custom built smoking oven, and they use hickory and other timber species. Late last year, I was invited to a media tasting at Meatworks – here are some photos from the tasting: Beautiful white building with a bull stencilled onto the building. All the different dishes I managed to squeeze onto my platter for tasting! Smoked Meat Platter 10 hour smoked pulled brisket, sticky lamb ribs, pulled …

Lunar New Year at Box Hill Central

Last week, I celebrated Lunar New Year at Box Hill Central a few weeks early. Myself and other foodies were invited for a Lunar New Year banquet thanks to Box Hill Central, Kitchen Republik and Movenpick . For those who haven’t been to Box Hill Central, it is considered as one of Melbourne’s biggest Asian food hub, where one can be spoiled by choices. There’s several Asian supermarkets that are stocked with fresh Asian ingredients – so you will be sure to cook up a storm for the reunion dinner during Lunar New Year; or catch up with family and friends at authentic food stalls – including traditional Hong Kong hawker stalls, a large variety of Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean/Japanese restaurants that offers traditional dishes. There’s also takeaway options available at the food court. You will not be deprived of choices! Best of all, it’s easy to get to via public transport (Lilydale/Belgrave) or even drive there with heaps of parking available (Tip: park under the train station off station st). For entrees and mains, we had dishes from Kitchen Republik. Back …

St Cloud Eating House | Hawthorn

Since seeing the development of St Cloud Eating House on Instagram, I’ve been intrigued and excited to check this place out as some of the team members behind St Cloud Eating House are  the cool kids who have worked at Feast of Merit, including Elle Critchley, who has worked her interior designer skills to re-lift what was once a old furniture store in Hawthorn. Love the hawker st vibe, and the bright white building! So, after my quick cardio session at the gym I decided to drop by St. Cloud Eating House for lunch. The lunch menu offers the usual Vietnamese staples – rice paper rolls, phở, but also a lunch combo where you can choose a main and salad and if you’re really hungry you can add rice too! I started with a cup of Matcha Maiden Soy Latte. I originally wanted coconut milk, but sadly it wasn’t available – but was happy to settle with a soy (I’m not lactose intolerant, but took up the option offered). The matcha latte arrived unsweetened, but there was sugar available …
