Restaurant Orana

The Grand Gelinaz is an event held every two years where 40 of the world’s most acclaimed, pioneering and creative talents takes part in an international restaurant swap. The chefs will exchange their lives, homes, pets and kitchen for three days before they participate in a 24-hour long dinner. In addition the ‘guest’ chef will find out who they are swapping with through the results of the Gelinaz ballot and will travel to destination and prepare a unique, unrepeatable 8-course menu. The chefs can only use ingredients from the country they swap with and use their culinary approach to create the unique dishes. As for guests, they will find out who the ‘guest chef’ on the actual day. During my short trip to South Australia, I visited Restaurant Orana. Restaurant Orana, one of South Australia’s upscale Modern Australia restaurant, was one of the restaurants participating in The Grand Gelinaz with chef Mikael Jonsson from michelin star restaurant Hedone London as the ‘guest chef.’ That night, Mikael skilfully used our beautiful native Australian ingredients to create dishes …

Glass Brasserie Fresh Oysters

Glass Brasserie | Sydney

During my visit to Sydney for the F&B Masters, I had the privilege of dining at the Glass Brasserie at Hilton Sydney. The Glass Brasserie is a definitive fine dining venue, which exudes elegance and sophistication.  Celebrity restauranteur Luke Mangan and his team have created a menu and experience that has imprinted in my memory to remember for a long while. During my visit, my companions and I dined on the some of the finest Modern Australian dishes. We ordered a large range of dishes, and by the end of the night, I had to roll myself back up to my hotel room! Luckily the Glass Brasserie is located within Hilton Sydney! To start off our amazing dinner we each ordered a drink. For myself I couldn’t go past the Sonia’s Pink Martini, which is one of Glass Brasserie’s signature cocktail. Sonia’s Pink Martini is made with Belvedere pink grapefruit vodka, lychee liqueur, pink grapefruit juice, sugar & fresh lychees. A very clean crisp vodka with freshness from the grape fruit juice and lychees. If you’re a big fan of …

The General Assembly | South Wharf

Recently my good friend Nick and I had the pleasure of visiting The General Assembly for lunch. This place is conveniently located at the heart of South Wharf, with a short walking distance from Southern Cross Station. It’s a very large venue that sits up to 600 people and is perfect for special occasions and events and the plus side is they have a great view of the river and the city. The General Assembly’s philosophy is to source high quality and well sourced produce, plus they have a strong affection for beer, where they are offering the full line up of Matilda Bay craft beers as well as one-off seasonal brews on tap. They also offer unpasteurised Carlton Draught from copper Duo Tanks. As for their food department, their restaurant is headed by Head Chef Darren Mercaldi (formerly of Matteo’s, Circa, Nobu, Middle Brighton Baths and Ladro). With such great restaurant names under his belt, you are sure to be in for a real treat. Starter Dishes For starters we had two dishes: 1. Yellowfin tuna …

Recently, I was given the opportunity to visit Rochford Winery to try out Head Chef Ciaran Butler’s new Winter menu and their award winning wines. Whilst Winter is coming to an end, I’m sure my review and photos will show you the calibre of their dishes, which will warrant you to visit the restaurant to try the next season’s menu. I took along my good friend and fellow blogger Maggie (Gastronomical Ramblings). We started the afternoon with some warm crusty bread and creamy, smooth butter. Nothing beats pulling apart crusty bread, smearing a generous amount of butter, sprinkling a bit of salt and popping it into your mouth. Maggie and I decided to go for the three course meal. For our dishes we had the Crab Cakes and Blackmore’s Wagyu Tartare. The Crab …
