Cafes in Melbourne

Miss Frank | Camberwell

After what seemed like a long week, I ventured out to Camberwell to check out Miss Frank that’s been trending on my instagram feed for a few weeks now – the vibrant colourful dishes really caught my eyes. The staff were very friendly and down to earth, giving us the time to settle at our table, before taking our drink order while we checked out the menu. We started off with a coffee and green tea. The dishes we ordered at Miss Frank were: Lean Green Fighting Machine, Cauliflower & Paprika fritters and the beautiful vibrant pitaya panna cotta. I personally didn’t eat the Lean Green Fighting Machine, other than a bite of the wilted greens and chick peas, however I found the greens to be quite flavoursome from the curry spice. I adore the vibrant beetroot labne that the sour dough and wilted greens were sitting on top of – it makes it so inviting! Weilynn, who I caught up with – also ordered their vibrant green smoothie. Lean Green Fighting Machine   As for myself, …

Street Talk Espresso

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Street Talk Espresso. Street Talk Espresso is not your average Melbourne cafe, but a highly innovative cafe that offers a large variety of imaginative dishes and great coffee. As the weather was beautiful that day, I requested for a seat out in the courtyard to soak up my much needed vitamin D. After ordering my coffee, I had a quick look at the menu and without hesitation I ordered their special for the day – the Lock Stock. My dish arrived shortly after like this: Be warned that this dish will draw a lot of attention! I mean how can you stop people from being so intrigued with what is under the glass closh and smoke? TA DA! The Lock Stock – Two Smoking Salmon – Roast Bagel Crumb, Dill + Orange cream cheese, candied nectarine, nordic salmon, avocado mousse and tomato caper concise. A vibrant looking dish that is beautifully balanced in flavour. I love the thin layer of beetroot gel layered on top of the creamy orange cream cheese …

Punchbowl Canteen | Port Melbourne

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Punchbowl Canteen’s bloggers lunch where I sampled thirteen dishes. Yes, THIRTEEN! Luckily I paced myself and had a small sample of each dish otherwise I would have been in a food coma no doubt. Now, when you think of the word ‘canteen,’ it is likely that you would associate that word with dim sims, chips, potato cakes, pies etc, however Punchbowl Canteen is far from the typical ‘canteen’ definition. Punchbowl is a vibrant cafe located in an industrial side of Port Melbourne that focuses on locally sourced and ethical produce and creating ‘mind blowing, finger lickin’, plate scraping food. Punchbowl Canteen offers a large variety of drinks, Industry Beans coffee, Matcha Maiden matcha lattes and Golden Grind golden lattes and an interesting variety of juices and smoothies. As it was a Sunday, it made sense for me to order their Sunday Peaches made from mango nectar, peaches, banana and blended with coconut yoghurt and almond milk right? That day we sampled the following thirteen dishes: Pumpkin Doughnuts –  cinnamon sugar, whipped …

Middletown Cafe | Prahran

Middletown Cafe is Melbourne’s hottest new cafe located on High Street Prahran. It is the chic and stylish sister cafe of Operator 25. The moment you step in the cafe you will immediately notice the gorgeous fit. The luxe royal blue feature panels with gold and marble details – very feminine and chic, compared to the masculine and corporate feel they have at Operator 25! From what I hear, Randy and Valerie were inspired by the style of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Shortly after arrival I was taken to my beautiful marble table where I was given a copy of their beautiful luxe menu and soon after my cappuccino arrived with the most amazing coffee art – Head barista Mikael Jasin definitely does not disappoint. Head chef Dilpreet ‘Gilly’ Singh (previously top paddock and two birds one stone) has curated a beautiful selection of dishes, that will warrant multiple re-visits to try out every dish. I was rather peckish at the time of arrival, so I ordered the Avocado – house made cornbread, smoked beetroot, …

Hutch and Co | Lilydale

Every time I discover a brand new cafe in the east side, and even better within 10-15 minutes drive, my heart sings with joy, for those living in the outer east, you can vouch for that – we’ve been deprived too long! Recently, I happened to chance upon a newly opened cafe – Hutch and Co whilst browsing on Instagram – and I made it my mission to check it out at my earliest chance. First impressions count right? Well before I even stepped into the cafe, I was mesmerised by their beautiful, shiny white tiles, lush black steel frames and gorgeous greenery. It’s hard to really miss this cafe, as their architecture really stands out from the other stores along Main St, Lilydale and of course their big bold logo lettered on their window really makes them shine. Another stand out feature is their outside bench for people to sit while waiting for their coffee or a table. It’s hard to believe that this site was once a ironmongery store known as Hutchinson’s. Once I stepped …
