Miss-Frank

Miss Frank | Camberwell

After what seemed like a long week, I ventured out to Camberwell to check out Miss Frank that’s been trending on my instagram feed for a few weeks now – the vibrant colourful dishes really caught my eyes. The staff were very friendly and down to earth, giving us the time to settle at our table, before taking our drink order while we checked out the menu. We started off with a coffee and green tea. The dishes we ordered at Miss Frank were: Lean Green Fighting Machine, Cauliflower & Paprika fritters and the beautiful vibrant pitaya panna cotta. I personally didn’t eat the Lean Green Fighting Machine, other than a bite of the wilted greens and chick peas, however I found the greens to be quite flavoursome from the curry spice. I adore the vibrant beetroot labne that the sour dough and wilted greens were sitting on top of – it makes it so inviting! Weilynn, who I caught up with – also ordered their vibrant green smoothie. Lean Green Fighting Machine   As for myself, …

Au79 | Abbotsford

Another day, another cafe opening. This time round, is the ultra spacious Au79 located in Abbotsford, lined with gold and luscious greenery throughout the cafe. Oh, and when I say spacious, I do mean SPACIOUS. Today, I caught up with my dearest Maggie (go check out her blog: http://www.theycallmemaggie.com) for brunch. Within 10-15 minutes waiting, we were ushered by a waitress to the ‘back’ section (I will explain the story behind the inverted comas later) of the cafe where we sat amongst the most gorgeous greenery and near the second coffee making section. After stalking instagram photos of au79, and deliberating for a good 5 minutes, we placed our order. Maggie ordered her favourite – smashed avocado, while I settled for the smoked bonito croquettes, and we also ordered the granola to share. Within 10-15 minutes of ordering our food arrived. These days, every cafe has their own version of smashed avocado, and trying to out do each other by making it prettier and very instaworthy. For au79, theres is spruced up with bright orange dukkah, …

Rogue District | Brunswick

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Rogue District (formerly Jellystone Cafe) in Brunswick. Rogue District is set in a beautiful heritage listed bluestone cottage, fitted with a new kitchen, while the dining area gives a very homely vibe. Rogue District will be the perfect place to visit during winter with its cosy open fireplace. On my visit, I had the opportunity to try a number of tantalising dishes created by head chef Moon, who originates from Korea. All the dishes were colourful, innovative and full of flavour. Skinny Latte This sticky date hot cakes with pretzel crumbs and butterscotch sauce was a crowd favourite – the fluffy warm hot cakes served with caramelised bananas, poached pears topped with vanilla ice-cream, drizzled with sweet and salty butterscotch sauce and served with delicious pretzel crumbs – I mean how can you not like this dish? Sticky date hotcakes with pretzel crumb and butterscotch sauce Being a Korean food fanatic, I was delighted to see the Korean Bulgogi burger – a juicy bulgogi flavoured beef patty sandwiched between two …

Poke Me | South Yarra

Poké (Pronounced Poh-kay). Unless you have been living under the rock for the past year, then you would have by now tried at least one Poké (Poh-kay) bowl by now. Poké Me is the newest Poke joint that recently opened in South Yarra. It is easily accessible via South Yarra Station. Having visited a number of Poké joints around Melbourne, I’ve finally had the chance to check out Poké Me today. Their concept is pretty simple – you first choose your protein, base, toppings (4-6), garnish (lil sumpin’ sumpin’) and dressing. They also offer a variety of sushi and ‘konnichiwa’ water which is their original concept of infused detox water in a beautiful glass bottle. (see full menu here) I chose a mix of green tea soba noodles and green base (quinoa, kale, broccoli and apple), salmon, topped with avocado, seaweed, kimchi, cucumber, edamame, garnished with wasabi caviar (!!!) and dressed with siracha soy. When I received my poké bowl I was surprised to see how generous Poké Me was with the protein and toppings. Having …

Street Talk Espresso

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Street Talk Espresso. Street Talk Espresso is not your average Melbourne cafe, but a highly innovative cafe that offers a large variety of imaginative dishes and great coffee. As the weather was beautiful that day, I requested for a seat out in the courtyard to soak up my much needed vitamin D. After ordering my coffee, I had a quick look at the menu and without hesitation I ordered their special for the day – the Lock Stock. My dish arrived shortly after like this: Be warned that this dish will draw a lot of attention! I mean how can you stop people from being so intrigued with what is under the glass closh and smoke? TA DA! The Lock Stock – Two Smoking Salmon – Roast Bagel Crumb, Dill + Orange cream cheese, candied nectarine, nordic salmon, avocado mousse and tomato caper concise. A vibrant looking dish that is beautifully balanced in flavour. I love the thin layer of beetroot gel layered on top of the creamy orange cream cheese …
