Ahhh~ Good ol’ Cafe Vue. Cafe Vue was probably one of the first places I visited, which added to my interests and fascination in ‘finer’ foods.
I remembered finishing an incredibly hard accounting exam for my masters degree that day, and at that time one of my close friends from my bachelors degree was in the city that day and had ask whether I would like to join him for lunch. I remember back at that time I ordered from their normal lunch menu and I had their awesome burger with fries, and it definitely left a very impressionable memory. (The burger is still available!!!! so go try)
Because of that very impressionable lunch I had, I took two of my friends to Cafe Vue at the St Kilda location, however it was a disappointment. The service wasn’t good and even one of my cutleries were dirty, and since then I’ve stayed away from the St Kilda location.
During my annual leave, I decided to give Cafe Vue on Lt. Collins St another try, and I’m so glad I did, because the experience I had this time was similar to the time I had lunch with my good friend (Minus his company). The service was attentive and the food was memorable.

So, if you follow this blog, you get the drill – Hot chocolate.
I like it how they serve it in a little glass bottle and an empty cup. From that bottle alone I managed to get two servings out of it. I have nothing to complain about the hot chocolate – It was rich, had character and not overly sweet.

Cafe Vue offers their normal menu along with rotating lunchboxes that consists of a starter, salad, savoury and a dessert.
The time from when I visited Cafe Vue, and to the time I am publishing this blog post, unfortunately the lunchbox has already changed. However, every lunchbox they offer something interesting. You can’t really fault Mr Shannon Bennet’s team in creating something delicious and creative here!
For those who are interested in trying out the lunchbox, I strongly recommend to arrive early as they get sold out pretty quickly!
Salad:
It’s funny how as we grow up our tastes change. I remember back when I was in high school I really loathed tomatoes. I don’t know why, I just hated the taste. But nowadays I love eating tomatoes.
This heirloom tomato salad was great. The dressing used in the salad was well mixed, meaning that all the salad leaves, and tomatoes were well coated with dressing. I usually hate eating salads that are not well mixed because it leaves me with salad leaves that are bitter in taste which I hate.
Starter and Savoury
The starter was a strange one for me but in a good way! When I took my first bite of the garlic crisps dipped in the anti-pesto it seemed to be extremely overpowering. After a while, the taste actually grew on me. I ended up liking it so much, I honestly wanted to order more of it!
As for the savoury, it was the wagyu beef meatball sandwhich. It was very moist. As it was an extremely hot day, I was feeling pretty peckish so I really don’t have much to comment about it.

The dessert in the lunch box was simple yet at the same time something I wish I had more to eat of! The dessert was a passionfruit pavalova. As passionfruit is one of my favourite fruits, the dessert went down a treat. In fact I haven’t had pavalova for a very long time, so it was a something special for me. It didn’t taste overly sweet as I expected as I guess it the accidity of the passionfruit pulp helped cut through the sweetness.
Of all sweets, I think cupcakes and macarons are my favourites. If i need to choose between the both, I’d probably choose macarons because of the pretty colours!
I didn’t purchase any from Cafe Vue, but when I was at the counter paying for my lunch, the macarons on display really caught my eyes! Look how pretty the macarons are! :)

Very pretty macarons! I love their “lunch boxes”, appropriate amount of food to satisfy for lunch with a bit of everything
I used to hate tomatoes when I was in high school too! But ever since I came to Melbourne, my taste completely changed! Like you, I adore tomatoes now! Funny :)
Hello Vien!
Thanks for visiting my blog :)
Oh that is very strange indeed! Perhaps it’s just one of those things where you grow out of it.
There’s food that I used to love as a kid, but unfortunately I dislike it now. *shrug*
