Thai-Thani

Thai Thani | Fitzroy

If there was one cuisine I had to eat for the rest of my life, it would most likely be Thai food. I crave Thai food on a regular basis and always on the search for new Thai places. Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Thai Thani located on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, where I was able to sample some of the most authentic Thai dishes that were inspired by the owner’s/head chef’s childhood. Here’s a photo diary of the dishes I tried with my friends at Thai Thani! Thai Espresso Martini and Spring Rolls Spring Rolls Papaya salad Mixed Asian greens, pomelo salad, massaman beef cheek curry and spring rolls Absolutely loved all the dishes we sampled despite being in a food coma earlier on in the day. The chef did not hold back on the spices and flavours and gave us an authentic Thai food experience. If there’s any dishes I would recommend it would be the massaman beef cheek curry as it was absolutely AMAZING. The beef cheek was so tender that it …

Miss-Frank

Miss Frank | Camberwell

After what seemed like a long week, I ventured out to Camberwell to check out Miss Frank that’s been trending on my instagram feed for a few weeks now – the vibrant colourful dishes really caught my eyes. The staff were very friendly and down to earth, giving us the time to settle at our table, before taking our drink order while we checked out the menu. We started off with a coffee and green tea. The dishes we ordered at Miss Frank were: Lean Green Fighting Machine, Cauliflower & Paprika fritters and the beautiful vibrant pitaya panna cotta. I personally didn’t eat the Lean Green Fighting Machine, other than a bite of the wilted greens and chick peas, however I found the greens to be quite flavoursome from the curry spice. I adore the vibrant beetroot labne that the sour dough and wilted greens were sitting on top of – it makes it so inviting! Weilynn, who I caught up with – also ordered their vibrant green smoothie. Lean Green Fighting Machine   As for myself, …

Soko | Abbotsford

What is your comfort food? Ice cream? Chocolate? Big bowl of pasta? For myself, whenever I’m having a difficult day, I would turn to sushi. When I received an email about this new sushi place, Soko, I was intrigued. A search on Instagram had me realise that Soko is not your typical sushi restaurant serving the usual sushi rolls, but sushi rolls re-invented. Let me take you through the dishes I tried when I visited Soko on two occasions. Visit One Soko is located amongst a number of Vietnamese eateries along Victoria St, and can only be identified via it’s big ‘SUSHI’ signage. It was upon closer inspection of the window signage that I realised I was at Soko! Stepping into Soko you will notice that it’s not your typical Japanese joint where everyone yells out ‘Irashaimase!’, but a bright, minimal and ‘serene’ atmosphere. Whilst I waited for my friend, I studied their detailed three page menu, one for their ‘new world’ sushi, second for traditional japanese food like ramen and dons and the drinks …

Au79 | Abbotsford

Another day, another cafe opening. This time round, is the ultra spacious Au79 located in Abbotsford, lined with gold and luscious greenery throughout the cafe. Oh, and when I say spacious, I do mean SPACIOUS. Today, I caught up with my dearest Maggie (go check out her blog: http://www.theycallmemaggie.com) for brunch. Within 10-15 minutes waiting, we were ushered by a waitress to the ‘back’ section (I will explain the story behind the inverted comas later) of the cafe where we sat amongst the most gorgeous greenery and near the second coffee making section. After stalking instagram photos of au79, and deliberating for a good 5 minutes, we placed our order. Maggie ordered her favourite – smashed avocado, while I settled for the smoked bonito croquettes, and we also ordered the granola to share. Within 10-15 minutes of ordering our food arrived. These days, every cafe has their own version of smashed avocado, and trying to out do each other by making it prettier and very instaworthy. For au79, theres is spruced up with bright orange dukkah, …
